Rutgers Against Hunger
Kudos

Rutgers Against Hunger gives a very special THANK YOU to University Facilities Maintenance for all their support!  This team has been instrumental in making RAH a success by delivering the food bins, collecting the food and driving it to the Community Food Bank of NJ each week.  Many groups on campus have held special events supporting RAH and University Facilities Maintenance has assisted with special delivery of food bins and pick up of food.

Many thanks to you and the over 5 tons of food your team has picked up and delivered to area food banks.  Your effort to support RAH has and will continue to directly help the growing number of people in NJ facing hunger.  Kudos University Facilities Maintenance!

A very special THANK YOU also to Waste Management for partnering with Rutgers Against Hunger and donating the RAH food bins for our year-long food collection!

Waste Management looks for ways to partner with the customers and communities we serve. WM is proud to join Rutgers University as part of Rutgers Against Hunger.  RAH is an organization that works to improve the quality of life in the community. As a company, WM focuses their efforts on programs that make the neighborhoods we live and work in stronger.

Kudos to the Rutgers community for these recent efforts:

RIAS Department Uses Creativity to Support RAH
Kudos to the RIAS deparment for using creative ways to engage their staff and support RAH.  During the holiday season, this department partnered with the EAS department and adopted a family in Ocean County and collected nearly $600 worth of groceries, a digital camera, new coats, clothing and toys for a family in need.  The RIAS department also donated to Elijah's Promise about 200 pounds of food and $233 by holding a baby photo contest.

In February, the RIAS department held a photo contest where the entry fee for a photo was canned food. By donating 1 can of food, you received 1vote for a photo (or 10 cans of food gives you 10 votes!).  This contest raised over 240 pounds of food. Congratulations to Chris Sickels, winner of the RIAS photo contest, and congratulations to RIAS for setting a great example of what a department can do to support RAH!

Bridge Award recipients donate award to RAH and helps a Newark family of 12

The REX Development Team was awarded the Presiden'ts Bridge Award for demonstrating an exceptional spirit of collaboration and the sharing of information and resources while pursuing the broad goal of excellent service to the benefit of the university. The group decided to donate the award, a gift card worth over $300, to Rutgers Against Hunger. The giftcard made a difference for a Newark family of 12, who has one child attending the Bruce Street School for the Deaf in Newark.  Through the child’s teacher at the school for the deaf, the Community FoodBank of NJ learned that this family suddenly found themselves having to choose between food and heat for their home.  The FoodBank was able to provide the family with an emergency food package, which probably lasted a week, and informed them where they could obtain emergency food regularly.  In addition, the family also received this gift card from RAH to help pay their bills. Thank you REX Development team, for your generosity and thoughtfulness!

More than 3 Tons of Food, Nearly $12000 in donations, and a Spirit of Giving
Just one month after President Richard L. McCormick announced a universitywide effort to combat hunger, Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) is already making a difference—and in a big way. Through a variety of efforts, from food drives at football games to online donations, Rutgers Against Hunger is bringing together the Rutgers community to help those suffering from hunger during tough economic times. Nearly $12,000 has been raised through RAH’s virtual food drive, more than three tons of food have been collected—yes, that’s three tons of canned chicken soup, tuna fish, peanut butter, and more—and volunteers are putting together plans and projects for 2009. For people suffering from hunger in New Jersey, these efforts make a real difference, with food being delivered to soup kitchens, community organizations, and other sources of help for the hungry. Please see below for some of the great and creative efforts our community has undertaken to assist in this endeavor.
