NJPIRG Hunger and Homelessness Hard at Work
The Rutgers student chapter of NJPIRG Hunger and Homelessness launched multiple initiatives in mid-November to raise awareness about hunger in New Jersey and around the world. These initiatives included a coffeehouse, a panel discussion, and a Hunger Banquet in which guests received for dinner what little amounts of food many people actually live on. Events also included a very successful  "Dorm Storm" to collect food and clothing that gained 25 bags of donations, and a movie night that collected enough money to purchase 12 Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need.

Gameday Food Drive Scores Big for Salvation Army
The Rutgers Athletic Department's food drive on Saturday, November 22nd at the Scarlet Knights vs. Army football game at Rutgers Stadium was a huge success. Over 2,000 pounds of non-perishable goods and $464 in cash donations were collected and donated to the Salvation Army.

The Great University Bake Sale Is Great Success
The Great University Bake Sale, a fundraising event benefiting Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services (MCFOODS), received orders for 196 pies, 30 more than sold in 2007. The pies, sold for $7 and baked by Rutgers students and Dining Services employees, enabled the purchase of $1,372 worth of ShopRite gift certificates for the Middlesex County Foodbank.

Food Donated and Money Raised at Charitable Campaign Kickoff
University Facilities
hosted the 7th Annual Preholiday Event, Fall Into Giving, a fundraiser in support of the Employees Charitable Campaign. Food donations from Rutgers' employees totaled 266 pounds and were donated to Elijah's Promise. An additional $3,000 was raised and will be divided and donated to various local charities.

Collected Food from the Rutgers Recreation Food Drive Gleaning Garners 2,000 Pounds of Produce
Students and faculty from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences participated in "gleaning" events at Giamarese Farm in East Brunswick on November 3 and November 10, gathering food planted specifically to feed the hungry. The gleaning was sponsored by Farmers Against Hunger, a program of the New Jersey Agricultural Society. About 2,000 pounds of fresh produce were gathered, including collard greens, mustard greens, and turnips.

Collected Food from the Rutgers Recreation Food Drive Rutgers Recreation Delivers 100 Bins of Canned Goods
A food drive sponsored by Rutgers Recreation at Rutgers–New Brunswick delivered a bounty of food to the Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services (MCFOODS)—100 bins of canned goods. Anyone who donated a can of food over a two-week period received a magnetic "R."

English Department Food Drive Benefits Elijah's Promise
Congratulations to the Department of English at Rutgers–New Brunswick for a recent food drive to benefit Elijah's Promise, a soup kitchen and social services organization in New Brunswick. The department collected Thanksgiving-related food items.
